Chapter 24
TONI DOUBLED PARKED Iris’s Durango behind Casper's Range Rover on 150th Street. Iris and her team were standing in front of the apartment building that Billy shared with his aunt. A half an hour after Iris and her team had arrived, Dt. Gomez dropped off the warrant for Billy Madison's arrest. A silver-haired old woman who stared out of her second-floor apartment window shouted down to the detectives, "Are you here to arrest that...that boy?”
Iris and the rest of the detectives looked up. Iris said, "What boy are you referring to, Ma'am?"
"That Billy Madison. I called 911 twice, but no one ever came."
Iris looked at Toni. "What did he do?" she shouted up to the silver-haired woman.
"He took my dog, a German Shepherd."
Iris looked across the street and stared at the top of the buildings. All the buildings on the block were designed in the same manner; five-floor walk-ups. "Look, Casper," she said as she pointed at the roof of the building. "There's about a three-foot gap between each of the buildings. Billy might head for the roof and try to jump across. I want you, Lori, and Gomez to stay down here and watch to see if he tries to escape that way." Then she said to Lori, "I want you and Gomez to cover the back of the building while Casper covers the front, all right?" She told Lori to keep her radio ready. Iris looked at her comrades and said, "O.k., then, let's go catch ourselves a monster."
Iris and Toni raced towards the fourth floor. Doris Madison lived in apartment 4C. Iris and Toni removed their weapons from their holsters. Iris banged on the door. "Billy, Billy Madison, this is the police, open up, now!"
There was no answer.
"Shhh, hold on," Toni said. "Did you hear that?"
Iris listened. "It sounds like somebody’s crying." Iris banged on the door again and repeated her orders. Then a piercing, heart-stopping scream filled the apartment. Iris took a step back and shot the lock off the door.
Iris and Toni entered the apartment, Glocks at the ready, heart's pounding.
Another scream echoed through the apartment. The ungodly sound was unsettling. The smell of burnt flesh attacked the detectives’ sense of smell. "Billy!" Iris shouted. "It's all over. Come out with your hands up, now!"
There was no answer.
Iris and Toni made their way down a short hallway. A room with its door slightly ajar stood twenty-five feet straight ahead. The screams came from that room. The detectives passed a kitchen that was situated to their right, then they passed a small living room. The detectives were three feet away from the door that was slightly ajar.
But before they entered, Iris’ radio started crackling, and Lori's frantic voice shouted, "He's on the roof! He jumped across!"
Iris and Toni charged into the room, and what they saw stopped them dead in their tracks. "SWEET MOTHER OF GOD!" Iris shouted. A woman who appeared to be in her mid to late fifties was sitting in a chair butt naked. Billy had a tied a cord around her right ankle and fastened to a hook on the wall; the same was done to the woman's left ankle. To the right sat a small dresser. On top of the dresser was a double-eye hot plate. The hot plate was glowing red. On top of one of its eyes was a small metal pipe.
Billy's Aunt Doris had a sizzling, hot pipe inserted into her vagina. The smell of roasting flesh was stifling.
Her eyes stretched. They looked as if they were being pushed out from the inside of her head. Blood leaked from her nose, the corners of her eyes, and her ears. Doris Madison was shaking uncontrollably and sweating profusely. Toni tried to remove the pipe, but it was too hot to touch.
"My God!" Toni shouted.
"Here, take this." Iris reached into her back pocket and pulled out a handkerchief. Toni covered her hand with the handkerchief and quickly pulled the pipe out. As soon as she did, the woman slumped over. Toni wrapped the woman's nude body up in a blanket. "Go get that son of a bitch, Iris. Get that Goddamn freak!" Toni looked up, but her partner was already gone, racing up the fire-escape.
Iris banged her shin on one of the iron steps as she ran toward the roof. "Fuck!" She stopped for a few seconds and rubbed her throbbing tibia, then she got up and continued her pursuit of Billy Madison. When Iris reached the roof, she looked to her left, then her right. She saw Billy jumping toward the third building. Iris did her best to block out the electrifying pain that was trying to rob her of her strength. She hopped onto the roof and raced toward the edge of the building. As soon as Detective Iris Williams leaped into the air toward the next building, every light in the city went out.
Chapter 25
DR. PATTERSON HAD STACEY McHill completely hypnotized when the room suddenly went dark. A few seconds later the emergency lights lit up the corner of the room. Through the large Plexiglas window, Dr. Patterson could see the male and female correction officers heading her way. They entered the room shouting orders at Stacey and the doctor. The female officer grabbed Stacey and pulled her out of her chair. The male officer told her to get the doctor out and that he would take care of Miss crazy lady. He took Stacey by the arm and spun her around so that her back was facing him; then he thrust his pelvis against Stacey's ass as he removed his cuffs. Doctor Patterson was about to protest when she saw Stacey's eyes fluttering. Stacey McHill’s face had morphed into a snarl, and she gnashed her teeth.
"Nooo, you fool. Let her go!"
Doctor Susan Patterson and the female correction officer were both staring at Stacey McHill. They both—apprehensively—took a step backward. At that precise moment the emergency lights failed, and complete blackness blanketed the room. Dr. Patterson heard the male officer fumbling with his keys, then he managed to switch on his mag-lite...for a second. The male officer screamed as Stacey McHill grabbed him by the face causing him to drop his mini flashlight. Dr. Patterson heard something crack, then she heard a body hitting the marble floor. The female correction officer pulled out her flashlight and began panning the room. There was another cracking sound, then the sound of handcuffs. The female correction officer frantically turned the flashlight toward the direction of the sounds as she took two steps backward. She called out her partner's name. A pair of handcuffs struck the female correction officer in the face. The handcuffs cracked her front teeth causing her to drop her knees. She lost her flashlight. She reached out and retrieved it. The correction officer panned the light onto her partner's body. He was lying on his back, but his lips were pressed against the floor. Before she could react, Stacey twisted her head completely around. The sound of bones cracking sickened Dr. Patterson.
IRIS LANDED ON THE rooftop of the adjacent building, rolled once, and stood up. She thanked God that she was still alive. She did a three hundred and sixty degree turn in the darkness, then removed her mini flashlight and switched it on. She flashed the light in the direction that she last saw Billy running, there was nothing to see; Billy Madison was gone. Iris limped toward the roof's edge and looked over the small barricade. The only lights visible were the flashlights from her team.
BILLY MADISON MADE it over to the last building. In the blackness, he ran toward the exit and down the stairs. At the bottom landing, in the back of the hall behind the stairwell, was a bike. Billy knew exactly where to find the bike because he'd put it there. He used it whenever he went scavenging for used condoms.
Billy walked out into the dark street with his bike in tow. Somebody was standing in the middle of the street with a flashlight. A cop, Billy thought. The cop stood there for a second before he made his way back down the dark street. Billy watched. Then he jumped on his bike and disappeared into the darkness.

DR. PATTERSON HAD DROPPED to her knees as soon as the emergency generator failed. She crawled over to the nearest corner. She pressed her back against the wall, raised her knees up to her chest, and wrapped her arms around them as she silently prayed to God. Dr. Patterson listened as her patient scuffled with one of the correction officers. She pleaded with her higher power to spare her life. At that moment a bright light shined in her
face. Dr. Patterson frowned from the glare as she shielded her eyes. A voice said, "Good evening, Doctor Susan.”
Although Stacey hadn't posed a threat to the doctor since she'd been in New York, Doctor Susan Patterson was afraid nevertheless. "You won't hurt me, will you?"
"No, Doctor Susan." Stacey leaned in closer to the doctor." You awakened my sister the other day, Dr. Susan. I couldn't allow that to happen again, Stacey's to weak." Dr. Patterson squinted from the light. "Me and my sister are one, now."
Doctor Patterson wanted to question her patient on what she meant. But her saliva had dried in her mouth making it hard for her to form words. The fetid odor of feces—from the two dead bodies that were lying no more than five feet away—had attacked her sense of smell.
"Don't worry, Doctor Susan, I'm not going to hurt you. All I need from you is your clothes. Take them off, now." Dr. Patterson removed her clothing in record-breaking time. She sat there in her underwear trembling uncontrollably; she needed to pee. Dr. Patterson asked Stacey, "What are you going to do? I mean... where would you go?"
In the dark, Dr. Patterson heard Stacey zipping up her jeans.
"I told you what I was going to do." Stacey stooped down, switched on the flashlight, and placed her lips inches from the doctor's ear. "I'm going to kill those bitches that killed me," she whispered. "I'm going to get everyone that they hold near and dear near. I'm going to drive those two-bitch’s crazy, and then I'm going to kill them, that's what I'm gonna do, Dr. Susan."
"Did you say you're going to... kill them for killing you?"
Doctor Patterson’s blood froze when a cold hand touched her cheek and turned her head slightly to the right. "No psychotherapy now, Doctor Susan." Stacey kissed Dr. Patterson on the mouth.
Dr. Patterson's bladder erupted.
Chapter 27
IRIS AND HER TEAM HAD made their way back to the Double 0 in one piece. The citizens of New York City had spent two agonizing hours in the dark. Once the power had been restored, Iris and Toni raced to their respective laptops. Iris put out a B.O.L.O for Billy Madison, then she went online and found out that Doris Madison still had property in Shreveport, Louisiana, and that she owned a home in St. Albans, Queens. "Got it!" she said to Toni. Toni found out that Doris Madison had died from her injuries on the way to the hospital.
"We've got to get that sick son of a bitch,” Iris said. “He’s going to Queens.”
The detectives barged into Lt. Stone's office and gave him an update. A minute or so later, Iris’ cell phone went off; it was Dr. Patterson. "Yes, Doc... hold on, you're talkin' too fast. I can't understand you...” Iris’ eyes lit up. "Holy shit! When?” Toni and Stone stared at Iris. Iris rocked on her feet; she felt light headed. "Thank you, Doctor Patterson." Iris switched off her phone and stared into space.
"Iris, what is it?" Toni asked.
Iris said nothing. She rubbed her left ear; then she sat down and looked at Toni.
"What is it?"
"What happened?" Lt. Stone asked.
The words were hard for Iris to form. "Stacey McHill...escaped from Tanawan tonight." Toni's hands shot straight up to her mouth. "Oh my God! How?"
"The blackout, it knocked out the system. She simply walked out of the place."
Lt. Stone grabbed his phone and made a call. Iris and Toni both sat in Lt. Stone's wing chairs, staring into nothingness. "I need everyone in Queens on this one, sir," Lt. Stone said into his phone. After he hung up, he said to his detectives, "Queens is locked down. They know what car she's driving—Doctor Patterson's—and they know what she's wearing. They'll get her.”
"The facility didn't have a backup system?" Toni asked.
"Apparently, that failed too," Iris answered.
"Listen," Lt. Stone said. "We need to concentrate on getting Billy Madison. The boys in Queens will take care of Stacey. You two head over to Billy's aunt's house. I'll clear it with the captain over at the one thirteenth. Take Casper and Tail along. I'll make sure that you'll have additional back from our boys in Queens.”
Iris rubbed her hands across her face. “She's coming here, to the Double 0. Dr. Patterson said that Stacey wants revenge." She looked up at Toni. "She's coming after us."
“She won't be able to get in this building," Lt. Stone said flatly.
Iris and Toni both shot the Stone a look.
“With all due respect, sir," Iris said. "What the hell are you saying? You know how good this girl is. The term master of disguise is too weak to describe what she could do with a little makeup. And with all the construction goin' on around this building, she could easily waltz right in here... I think we should—”
"I got this, Detective Williams," Stone said abruptly, cutting Iris off. "I'll place some men at all the entrances to the building. They'll check every worker that comes in and out of this building. Now go get Billy.” As soon as Iris and Toni had left Lt. Stone's office, the big man slumped in his chair and ran his hands over his bald head. "Oh, sweet mother Jesus, not again."
Chapter 28
BILLY FRANTICALLY PACED back and forth in his aunt's basement in St. Albans, Queens. "Those fuckin' bitches interrupted me!" Billy slammed his fist down on a tabletop that was situated in the middle of the room, causing a swarm of flies to leap off the remains of a dead puppy. Billy stared at the walls. He kicked a dead rat out of his way as he paced. "I've got to get me another one." Billy marched up the stairs, out of his aunt's house, and into her Toyota. Billy's craving, the repulsive, sexual urge that fueled his soul was unrelenting, and Billy Madison would not rest until he fed it.
Billy drove to Jamaica Ave. As he turned the car on Sutphin Blvd., he spotted his next victim. A middle-aged woman was standing next to a pizza joint. She was wearing a tattered wool coat, and she was begging for money. Billy parked the car on 89th Street. He jumped out of the Toyota and ran back toward Sutphin Blvd. He slowed down as he got closer to the woman. He asked her if she was hungry. The woman nodded her head. "If you want, you can come with me; I'll take you to my aunt's house, and she will feed you," Billy said as he smiled at the middle-aged woman. "Would you like that?"
Back in Billy's basement, the middle-aged woman stared at the walls. "I'll get you something to eat in a minute," Billy said as he locked the door. The woman was staring at a small shrine that Billy had made; it sat on top of a dresser. She walked up to it.
"You like? These are my trophies." The shrine consisted of bloody panties taken from his victims. The woman was focusing on two golden tennis bracelets. The woman picked up one of the bracelets and read the inscription; it read: To our beautiful twin, Jannifer. Then she picked up the other and read that one, too. Billy Madison walked up behind her. He was butt naked. His erect penis poked the woman in the back. He leaned over and whispered into her ear, "I'm gonna hang your ass on my wall too, bitch."
The middle-aged woman turned around quickly. The expression on her face made Billy gasp. Stacey McHill's mouth twisted in to a hideous smile as she pulled off the wig that she wore. Her eyes were bloodshot. "Remember me, you pig?” The sound of her voice shocked Billy. "You killed my mommy and daddy." Stacey McHill grabbed a handful of Billy's testicles; her nails ripping into his flesh. And with a scream that would have awakened the dead, Stacey McHill ripped them off. Billy's mouth stretched open like a yawning hippopotamus. Stacey stared into Billy Madison's contorted face. She snatched a six-inch butterfly knife from Billy's dresser and plunged it into his right eye. Billy stumbled away from his attacker. With his only remaining eye Billy saw his bloody testicles in the woman's hand. Stacey screamed as she charged toward Billy Madison. "Leave my mommy and daddy alone!" The screams and the pain that came out of Stacey McHill's mouth came from the pit of her tortured soul. Unbounded rage shined in Stacey's eyes. She stuffed Billy's testicles into his gaping mouth. Stacey ignored the angry swarm of blowflies that flew from the carcass of a German Shepard that hung on the wall above Billy Madison's head.
Chapter 29
IRIS, FOLLOWED BY CASPER, r
aced down Linden Blvd with the sirens blaring and strobe lights flashing. Iris almost struck a pedestrian. She turned on 199th Street doing sixty-three miles per hour. "Holy crap!" Toni shouted as Iris’ vehicle hit a mailbox; a homeless woman jumped out of the way.
"Sorry!" Toni yelled to the lady as Iris sped toward 116th Ave. Iris stopped at the corner where two patrol cars and two unmarked cars were waiting; Casper parked right behind Iris’ Durango. Iris walked up to one of the plain clothes detectives and introduced herself. "Whatcha got, Detective? Is our suspect inside?"
The detective who looked like he could use a little more protein in his diet said, "I don't think so. My boys checked the back, and we've been banging on the door since we've got here. We were just about to go in." Iris stared at the house. "One thing I could tell you is that something is very dead inside that house,” the skinny detective said.
"Yeah, I can smell it.” Iris waved to her team, and they all walked over to the front door. "Look, the Queens boys said that they don't think that our boy Billy is in there, but still watch your back. Casper, you do the honors."
Casper stepped up to the door and banged three times. "Police, open up!" Casper looked at Iris. He was waiting for the sign.
"Try again." Casper banged on the door again and repeated his orders.
Just then one of the uniformed officers came from the back yard. "There's something definitely dead in this house. And all the basement windows are bricked up, too."
Iris looked at Casper and said, "O.k., Casper, smash." Iris winked at the boys from Queens. Casper took a step backward. The police officers watched as the large albino flexed his muscles, growled, then charged toward the door. The door exploded off its hinges as Casper stumbled inside.
